Options and Upgrades For Harrison GB Guitars
Harrison Classic GB and Neo GB guitars include several no-charge options, and can be upgraded at additional cost. Options and popular upgrades are detailed below. Additional customization can be provided upon request.
All woods used are carefully selected from specialty wood sources, and are then left to air dry for a minimum of one year in the controlled shop environment.
Necks are made with quarter sawn wood, which results in a stiffer neck and reduces seasonal movement, and use 2- or 3-piece lamination to enhance stability. The neck shape and width are adjusted to accommodate the player’s preferences.
This upgrade replaces the standard mahogany neck and body with a three-piece quarter sawn maple neck, and a flip-matched maple body.
.
Harrison GB guitars feature a hand-carved Sitka Spruce, Engleman Spruce, or Douglas Fir top.
There is no additional charge for these options.
Standard GB guitars feature a hand-carved spruce top. This popular upgrade substitutes a bookmatched flamed maple top from our in-house stock.
.
Other bookmatched exotic wood tops are often available; for example, Redwood Burl, Spalted Maple, Blister Maple, Striped Mahogany, or Sapele Pommele.
.
Fretboards, pickguards, bridges, tailpieces, pickup trim rings, and control knobs are made from carefully seasoned woods, typically African or Macassar Ebony, or East Indian Rosewood. The peghead can also be faced with matching wood.
Other exotic species are often available; for example, Mun Ebony, Pau Ferro, Brazilian Rosewood, or Cocobolo. Please enquire.
The standard neck humbucking pickup on Harrison GB guitars provides a mellow and warm tone that is ideal for Blues, Jazz, and similar genres.
A variety of Humbucking models are available, in several finishes, depending on customer preference. Most popular are Seymour Duncan, Fralin, and Lollar.
The pickup is mounted on a trim ring that matches the wood used for the fretboard and tailpiece.
A series/parallel switch can be wired with the neck pickup. It provides two distinct tones; both humbucking. Series is the fuller, louder option. Parallel reduces the mid-range and level by 20-30%. If the switch is omitted, the pickup is wired in series.
There is no additional charge for these neck pickup options.
The standard neck humbucking pickup on Harrison GB guitars provides a mellow and warm tone that is ideal for Blues, Jazz, and similar genres.
The bridge humbucking pickup upgrade adds a tone that is brighter, and has more attack and punch. The bridge pickup model generally matches the neck pickup.
The pickup is mounted on a trim ring that matches the wood used for the fretboard and pickguard.
A three-way toggle switch controls which pickups are active.
.
Unlike a regular pickup, which is mounted on the guitar body and uses a magnetic field to generate an eletrical current from the movement of the strings, a piezo-electric pickup is enclosed within the bridge and works by picking up the actual vibrations of the strings and the instrument.
Piezo pickups produce a more acoustic-like tone because they relay the actual acoustic energy of the instrument. They are often brighter and less warm than magnetic pickups, allowing for a high degree of string articulation and tonal clarity.
Piezo options include the Fishman Powerbridge, as well as a custom ebony bridge using Fishman, L.R. Baggs, or EMG piezo elements with onboard preamplification.
In order for the piezo bridge to be paired with the standard magnetic neck pickup, an Active Blend control is added to balance the two pickups.
.
Volume and tone control knobs are typically made of wood to match the fretboard, and can be capped to match an exotic wood top.
Optional Stealth controls can be installed within the treble side sound hole.
There is no additional charge for control knob options.
A pickguard is standard on Harrison GB guitars, although often omitted when a highly figured top is selected.
The pickguard can be simple or ornate, can match the wood used for the fretboard and other fittings, and can be bound.
Please check out pickguards in our image gallery or contact to discuss.
There is no additional charge for a pickguard.
A hand-carved tailpiece is standard on Harrison GB guitars. It typically matches the wood used for the fretboard and pickguard.
There is no additional charge for the tailpiece.
Ivoroid is a vintage white or cream coloured celluloid nitrate binding that we've used extensively in the past. For structural and aesthetic reasons, we have been using wood bindings almost exclusively since 2012. Ivoroid Binding may have limited availability. Please enquire.
Abalone is a richly colored sea shell that, when polished, makes beautiful inlays and trim. Subject to availability. Please enquire.
While fretboard dot inlays are standard — albeit optional — on Harrison GB guitars, more elaborate block or split-block inlays are also available. Please enquire.
.
A shaded finish, such as hand-rubbed amber, or a sunburst finish can often compliment the inherent beauty of wood. Please check out guitar finishes in our image gallery or contact to discuss options.

The 7 string upgrade adds a low B string to the Harrison GB guitar.
.
Harrison GB guitars have a chambered (mostly hollow) body, with a solid section under the bridge. This offers the best feedback rejection and increased sustain.
The fully-hollow body upgrade incorporates a braced top with a more open body, which gives more acoustic output and more closely matches the archtop sustain characteristics.
.
In order to preserve the vibration pattern of the top, the floating humbucker upgrade is recommended in conjunction with this upgrade.
The floating humbucker upgrade replaces the standard neck pickup with a Kent Armstrong or Bartolini 5J floating humbucking pickup.
This upgrade is recommended if the fully-hollow body upgrade is selected, as a floating pickup — which is attached to the fretboard — won't interfere with or change the vibration pattern of the guitar top.
There is no additional charge for this upgrade if the fully-hollow body upgrade is selected.
